Pawan Kumar Chaturvedi in Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), Radhe Mohan in Tere Naam (2003), Chulbul Pandey in Dabangg (2010), Devil in Kick (2014)... In a career spanning over two-and-a-half decades, Salman Khan has given us many memorable characters.
But the character he has become literally synonymous with is that of Prem.
Guess what, the Bollywood superstar has played Prem not once or twice, but in 14 films so far.
His 15th Prem avatar is hitting the screens today, in Sooraj Barjatya's magnum opus Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.

In fact, including PRDP, Salman has played Prem in four Rajshri Films (Barjatya's production company) movies.
Here, let's take a look at the other three:
Sallu first turned Prem for Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). The story of a rich guy falling in love with a poor girl was not new in Bollywood, but Salman's charm and Bhagyashree's innocence made MPK a super hit.

The audience loved Prem so much, Barjatya gave them another one in Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994).
A joint family saga, this one had Salman's character falling hook, line and sinker for his brother's sister-in-law, played by Madhuri Dixit. A major tragedy, some intense moments and a dozen songs later, the lovers united.

The movie, a box-offce hit, was the remake of another Rajshri film, Nadiya Ke Paar (1982), which was also received well.
The third Prem Barjatya gave us was in Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999). Once again a family tale, Salman played the ideal younger brother in it. There was also a romantic track with Sonali Bendre's character (Preeti). What endeared Prem to the audience this time was his personality traits -- an extremely shy and silent guy, he stands up for what is right, even if that meant going against his mother (Reema Lagoo).

With Prem Ratan Dhan Payo releasing today, let's see what the latest Prem is all about.
